Stellar physics is more than ever at the heart of many questions in astrophysics. In this talk I will give a brief introduction of state-of-the-art stellar evolution modelling and address two great challenges that this discipline needs to overcome. I will focus on the framework of JWST and PLATO missions to present how major missions and instruments will help make a leap forward in our understanding of stars, hence of planetary systems and stellar populations.
