Title:
The interplay of dwarf galaxies and their globular clusters
Abstract:
Recent deep extragalactic surveys have revealed a striking diversity in the properties of globular cluster (GC) systems around dwarf galaxies, raising questions about dwarf galaxy formation and the link between galaxies and star clusters in the low-mass regime. This diversity suggests that multiple physical processes shape GC populations, with important implications for our understanding of galaxy evolution. Given the upcoming data from several wide-field extragalactic surveys, this is a timely opportunity to advance studies of GC populations in dwarf galaxies.
In this talk, I will first review key results from previous extragalactic surveys and summarize the main debates and open questions concerning GCs in dwarf galaxies. I will then focus on the unique capabilities of the Euclid mission for identifying and characterizing GC systems in the nearby Universe. Euclid’s deep, high-resolution optical and near-infrared imaging enables systematic studies of GCs around large samples of dwarf galaxies for the first time. I will present highlights from the Euclid Early Release Observations (ERO) on dwarf galaxies and their GC systems, outline current plans for Euclid DR1, and discuss recent developments in comparisons with cosmological simulations. Finally, I will discuss how these results provide new constraints on models of galaxy formation.
